Graduation :)

Our classmates threw us a somewhat surprise "Graduation" Party yesterday. When we went to class yesterday afternoon, they had decorated the room and had pictures from our time together playing on the overhead screen. They are so sweet! The ballons below spell out "bye."
The group shot:These ladies have been a big part of our language learning over the past year and a half...our teachers:The classmates we're currently studying with:The guys:A picture that our student teachers drew for me and Joy:
During the party the classmates took turns singing us songs, giving farewell blessings, and sharing fun memories. Below is a video that Joy and I gave to them as a present from our time together:

Packing!

These last 2 years have grown and changed me in ALL sorts of ways! I'm a major procrastinator in a lot of areas...especially when it comes to packing...but something came over me these past couple of days and I've nearly gotten everything packed for the upcoming move across country! (Mama, in my head, I just saw your eyes get big and your jaw drop in amazement.) Maybe it's living with someone who is so the opposite of being a procrastinator, I don't really know the word for that, but it's been a good motivator, PTL!I even tackled the kitchen yesterday, deciding what to take and what to pass on to others. We're trying to get everything situated since we're having to move everything but the furniture out of our apartment before we leave. I think that every time our friends have come over these last couple of months they've left with something in their hands (clothes, blankets, old suitcases, stuffed animals, coat hangers, towels, office supplies, family photos, shoes, all sorts of odds and ends). The funny thing though is that you have to be able to carry whatever you take b/c you don't have a car parked out front to stuff it in...you have to walk either 1 km to the bus stop or find a taxi somewhere on the street. The pic on the left is Anna heading back to the dorms with a suitcase full! I'm still sore from yesterday, hauling our old Christmas tree over to a friend's house under one arm, and a bag full of overflowing kitchen supplies and books under the other, the few blocks on foot to her house. :)Joy managed to fit everything that she's taking back to America in 2 suitcases (and she doesn't even need all the space). She amazes me, and she is truly one of the most productive and practical persons I know. I think the only thing left in her room is the sheets on her bed, and a few clothes in the closet...and it's been that way for a least a couple of weeks! This is me making sure all my luggage is gonna close up...and not fly open & hurt anyone in transport (That comment's for you Daddy. ;))The only potential problem that I could run into at this point is not being able to transport (aka lift) the luggage by myself! My specialty is definitely not lifting heavy things (I'm more gifted in the changing light bulbs/reaching the bowls on the top shelf department). So as silly as it may sound, please do ask that it won't be a problem getting all 5 bags and the additional carry-ons out of the airport when I arrive on the other side of the country!
Seriously, thank you SO much for the thoughts you've been lifting for us as we're packing up! Can't wait to update you at the end of the month about all the good things that've been going on!!!

What's in your backyard?

Just 2 weeks left before the big move! It's been an awesome month, I can't wait to see what's in store for these last couple of weeks. I've been enjoying spending quality time and convos with friends...and recently went to the zoo with one of them!
It was wild how close you could get to these animals!Morg...this pic's for you! This giraffe didn't have much to keep him from making an easy exit. :)OH and I love the skyrises right behind the giraffe exhibit! That'd be a interesting balcony view! :)

Mid-Autumn Day

This Sunday people all over Asia celebrate Mid-Autumn Day. Traditionally this day marked the end of summer harvesting for farmers. The date for this celebration is different every year b/c it is based off of the lunar calendar, so every Mid-Autumn Day celebration closes with a beautiful full moon. Only one bad thing about living in a place that's constantly covered by dense clouds and fog, you don't get many glimpses of the moon. :) But we did get to celebrate with a few friends tonight by eating a special treat that's only made/sold once a year...Moon Cakes! And I got to treat our friends to homemade frappuccinos!
FRAPPUCCINO RECIPE:
(Makes 2 "Grande" Drinks)

COFFEE FLAVOR
3/4 cup double-strength coffee, cold
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 cup low-fat milk
2 cups ice
1. Make double-strength coffee by brewing with twice the coffee required by your coffee maker: That should be 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per each cup of coffee. Chill before using.
2. To make drink, combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until ice is crushed and drink is smooth. Pour into two 16-ounce glasses, and serve with a straw.

CARAMEL FLAVOR
For this version, add 3 tablespoons of caramel topping to the original recipe and prepare as described. Top each glass with whipped cream and drizzle additional caramel over the whipped cream.

MOCHA FLAVOR
For this version, add 3 tablespoons Hershey's chocolate syrup to the original recipe and prepare as described. Top each glass with whipped cream, if desired.

Waterfalls

I'm not sure how high the waterfall count got up to b/c around nearly every curve in the path we came across one!So here's the waterfall exhibition...

How gorgeous! What a MAGNIFICENTLY WONDERFUL Maker!

Adventures in the Wilderness

Some of our older friends (older as in age) piled us up in their car and took us out on an adventure yesterday. We had no idea where we were going when we took off, we just knew to bring food and comfortable shoes for walking, and to be ready to enjoy a day of beautiful creation! So farther and farther away from the big city we went...til we found ourselves riding through the countryside way up into the mountains. We finally got to our destination and set out on a hike...which turned into quite an adventure through the "wilderness."

What we thought was a small trek through the mountains turned into a 7 kilometer hike! But it was nothing but breath-taking sights and pure delight from beginning to end! Even though we did start getting a little delirious about hour 4 1/2! :)

Because we were following the path of the river through the mountains we had to cross the river several times...utilizing everything from swinging bridges, stepping stones, to planks supported by rubber tires! At one point we even went through a cave!Oh and don't worry...we took lots of little stops along the way to take a short rest...and to re-nourish! Nothing like gnawing on chicken feet, eating boiled eggs, and drinking pepsi while you're hiking (our friends packed these little treats).

And our friends taught us that there's only one way to cross a swinging bridge...run across it!!! So I gave it a whirl...

I just got to give thanks, not only for his glories, but also for renewed health...what a precious gift good health is!
